Max Payne Actor James McCaffrey Dies Aged 65

Today we are deeply saddened to learn that James McCaffrey, the voice behind Max Payne, has died aged 65 after losing his battle to cancer.

The news comes today after confusion this morning following a Frank James McCaffrey, aged 17, who also died on Sunday. It was only until recently this evening, that the actor’s manager confirmed that McCaffrey had also passed away following his battle with multiple myeloma.

McCaffrey was well-known for his appearance on film screens and TV shows for more than 30 years throughout the ’80s and ’90s, where some of his popular roles included playing Captain Arthur O’Byrne in ‘New York Undercover; and well as NBC series ‘Viper’.

For us here in the Rockstar Community, many fans will know McCaffrey for his huge role as the voice of Max Payne, including the original title from 2001. Not only did McCaffrey voice Max Payne, but he also provided the motion capture for Max in the 2012 Max Payne 3. McCaffrey was also well known for playing his part as Alex Casey in Alan Wake, and most recently this year’s Alan Wake II, and we know the news of his death will come as a shock to the Rockstar Games and Remedy Entertainment communities.

Max Payne 1 and 2 are currently in production for remakes by Remedy Entertainment, and we hope they pay homage to McCaffrey for his incredible work and dedication over the year.
